Every Wednesday a new video in the series “On Being” is published online. It’s created by young video journalist Jennifer Crandall of WashingtonPost.com.
To see how “On Being” is created, you can check out the Apple Pro feature about Crandall and hear the WashPost.com’s philosophy about new media.
Heavyset Robot that’s my game. Not done, but its getting there.
Well I’m sure Zach has seen this but it was new to me and it captures the way I sometimes feel when we talk about advanced action script. Caution, subtitles ahead.
This is a great site to download e-books.
They have everything from flash instruction, to learning CSS, XML, JavaScript and anything else that is related to web design/programming.
Scroll down and the menu on the right will list all the web-related subjects.
I know its not what we are supposed to do but I just got a working, side sliding navigation (just to see whats up!). Anyone interested in getting this off me, hit me up..jw149602@ohiou.edu or leave a comment

hopefully the photo upload works….
Wow.innovative cutting, sound design and an amazing interplay between still shots in Iraq and the popular 70’s TV show show really push the boundaries on this “slideshow” from Magnum in Motion.
Here are the files we worked on in class, albeit a little cleaned up. Its fully commented so you can look in the actions layers to see explanations for everything.
See if for class on Wednesday you can make this a little nicer by adding some transitioning effects. Try making the main image fade from one into the next. You can do this by creating a new empty movie clip on top of the old one to load the new image into. When the image is done loading fade out the old clip while you are fading in the new clip. Then remove the old movieclip.
You can also work on coming up with a way to add more thumbnails. Something scrolling would be nice. Go to gotoandlearn.com and click on “Scrolling Thumbnail Panel” for some inspiration. There’s lots of other stuff you could do too, like some nice animated mouse over effects on the thumbnails or a way to show and hide the caption. Use your imagination and see if you can come up with something to show the class on Wednesday, or add some of the functionality of this movie into one that you are already working on.
Leave it to the Japenese to come up with this Wario like brilliant flash game:
